How to install BOINC on Mint and Ubuntu
(Message 534)
Posted 9 Feb 2020 by Coleslaw Post: Some projects are more efficient crunching under Linux. For example, it is well known that anything Vina based can be up to 50% faster under Linux. There are a few projects that are Linux only right now. Here, the Linux native application seems to run a lot better than the Virtualbox application and needs fewer resources. So, it just really depends on you, the projects you support, and the applications you run. |

If you want to give it a shot by running it inside a virtual machine, I think you will find it worth your time here. Posted 10 Dec 2019 by Coleslaw Post: I have a work unit that has ran elapsed time of 23 days. I got to looking at the properties and it is just over 1 day of CPU time. However, it has locked down that CPU thread this entire time from other BOINC work. The progress kept going so I wanted to watch it for observation. Quite frankly one of the reasons I hate virtualbox projects. |

Posted 1 Dec 2019 by Coleslaw Post: https://quchempedia.univ-angers.fr/athome/workunit.php?wuid=37247 That was the work unit that was running over 14 days on a Windows host. As you can see a Linux host picked up the resend and finished it much quicker. I'm guessing there is an issue with the VM rather than the work units being monsters... |

Posted 30 Nov 2019 by Coleslaw Post: I have a work unit that has been running 14 days and is now past deadline. Another work unit that has ran 11 days and a third that has ran almost 9 days. If we are to continue getting monster work units, a re-assessment of completion deadline should be considered. |
