There seems to be an awful lot of people timid about running Linux. If you want to give it a shot by running it inside a virtual machine, I think you will find it worth your time here.

Is there any advantage in creating a partition on my hard drive, installing Linux on it, and running Boinc from there?

Some projects are more efficient crunching under Linux. For example, it is well known that anything Vina based can be up to 50% faster under Linux. There are a few projects that are Linux only right now. Here, the Linux native application seems to run a lot better than the Virtualbox application and needs fewer resources. So, it just really depends on you, the projects you support, and the applications you run.

Script, that creates VM with boinc, with boinc manager access, with accoint key given at the command line.
No additional software, virtualbox headless mode. It may be interesting.
But i have no time now to create it.
So, Windows is the best choice. Hope this project's software will be more stable.
