NWChem long no longer in beta soon
(Message 655)
Posted 3 Mar 2020 by swiftmallard Post: My little Windows machine happily crunches the short units without any issues we haven't discussed many times before. I was hoping the long ones might boost my RAC a little but they don't so I am happy taking whatever I get. |

Only getting a few WU
(Message 634)
Posted 28 Feb 2020 by swiftmallard Post: DavidBAM has computers with more than 1 thousand processors , so the default settings of the project have to be adapted for his profile. I come up with over 65,000 total processors on 52 machines. If each core got one WU, that would be more than 10% of all the available work. |

Creating a dual boot system
(Message 594)
Posted 18 Feb 2020 by swiftmallard Post: Does anyone have any advice on creating a dual boot system, Linux onto a Windows 10 machine? I'm looking for such info as which Linux version, partition size on a 256G SSD (125 GB free), and other options I don't even know enough to ask about yet. My aim here is to be able to crunch more effectively for this project (read: without the encumbrances of VirtualBox), and use it as a vehicle to learn Linux in general. |

Posted 16 Jan 2020 by swiftmallard Post: Despite I prefer the "two app solution (big wus/small wus)", i voted for the choice 2 (only big simulation), because i think that admins (they are only 2, with a lot of other work commitments) cannot manage a too complex situation, with different apps, with different bugs, etc. I agree completely |

Posted 14 Jan 2020 by swiftmallard Post: Abort it, the result will be invalid anyway. With the od9 WUs, I abort anything that takes longer than 8 hours. But be aware that when the next batch of WUs begins, there will be changes in how we need to look at this issue. Hopefully, it will not exist! |

Posted 10 Dec 2019 by swiftmallard Post: I have a work unit that has ran elapsed time of 23 days. I got to looking at the properties and it is just over 1 day of CPU time. However, it has locked down that CPU thread this entire time from other BOINC work. The progress kept going so I wanted to watch it for observation. Quite frankly one of the reasons I hate virtualbox projects. That one would have been aborted 22 days ago, I've never had one complete successfully for longer than 21 hours. |
