Not quite correct either. It tells the researchers that the initial starting points do not produce valid results.
That is useful information, and part of what they are trying to find.

Yeah, I know what you mean.
Scientists can get useful information even from failures, that's the most important thing here.
We volunteers get 0 credits from invalid tasks as well.

It is quite normal, though I don't remember the distinction between "inconclusive" and "invalid".

Inconclusive tasks turn into valid if the results of at least one wingman match yours. However, it can happen that all the tasks relating to the same workunit are inconclusive and a couple of matching results (=valid tasks) is not found either.
Invalid tasks are definitely wrong or useless.

Linux hosts do not need virtualization though.

361 too. Fortunately it's not crunching.

You can try the solution here : https://quchempedia.univ-angers.fr/athome/forum_thread.php?id=129&postid=1279
The conclusion seems to be : Just don't use BOINC 7.16.4. But you have 7.16.6 that should work...
Yeah, my BOINC version is right.

Meanwhile I believe that I have found what is causing validate errors.

That is
YIELD_SLEEP_TIME="1000" LD_PRELOAD="/lib/libsleepboinc.so" boinc
instead of
boinc

I use to start BOINC like that because it fixes the bug of 100% CPU usage for some OpenCL apps.
I tried to start BOINC by the second command above and I didn't see early failures on QuChemPedIA. I started BOINC again by the first command and the same task failed after 4 seconds.
https://quchempedia.univ-angers.fr/athome/result.php?resultid=7052813
So, now I know that I have to choose between QuChemPedIA and those OpenCL apps...

I don't know what's happening, sorry.
Can you help me to solve?

E.g. 143 540 2447 2537

Host 2537 reported all (completed) tasks on 25 September; host 143, 540 and 2447 did not crunch anything before deadline.
Who was 75% right? :(

P.S. those hosts, if offline, could still report tasks with success before server resends them to other volunteers.

Again, ALL tasks of type long released after August 11th appear faulty.
For each invalidated task, you will finde wingmen crate-wise to confirm these tasks are buggy. Why re-circulate this often then?
I observed sometimes they get validated.
https://quchempedia.univ-angers.fr/athome/workunit.php?wuid=1383666

Admin said faulty tasks are useful too.
https://quchempedia.univ-angers.fr/athome/forum_thread.php?id=104&postid=941#941

Can anyone show me a properly validated one meeting the specs I described above (Linux, long, released after August 11th)?

Michael.
Personally I can't. I downloaded all my tasks before.

Anyway I can link something:
https://quchempedia.univ-angers.fr/athome/workunit.php?wuid=1360632
https://quchempedia.univ-angers.fr/athome/workunit.php?wuid=1360629

https://quchempedia.univ-angers.fr/athome/workunit.php?wuid=1360885
etc...
Go to top computers and check yourself by setting valid long tasks on Linux systems.

I only process the more demanding NWChem long tasks with Linux since around Agust 11th. Before, I had all tasks in the works. The last correctly validated "long" tasks were returned on August 9th.

Maybe it is just an issue with these long tasks then?
The project lead has to specifically take a look at these work packets injected into the system around August 11th, I think.

Michael.

Michael, there isn't any problem with long tasks.
Mostly "multiple inconclusive"/"validate error" WUs are circulating.
Good tasks are gone, all assigned to someone.
If you request new tasks now, you probably get those tasks that concern unstable molecules.
Sometimes you will get good expired tasks, that could be probably not problematic.

I know you said before that even the failures can help (at least I think you said that), but failure after failure (which is what they become if no validations occur), does not help the volunteers with no reward for lots of processing time.
As good tasks are validated (and crossed off), only problematic tasks remain and get resent out (e.g. 1374241).
So failures and chances of not getting rewarded are increasing a bit.

There are always extreme cases, don't make it a generalization. You're whining about points, and on my end, it's about the scientific results I'm waiting for... At the moment, project is running and we don't plan to shutdown it.

Your point is logically right. I'm not whining, I'm just raising a scenery that, as volunteer, I would hate so much. If project will run enough time, I've nothing to say anymore about it.

The deadlines are too long? In my experience, if they are too short, there are a lot of failures.

Good.

After a certain number of failures, the workunit is abandoned and I don't get my result.

Can't you run it locally by trusted machine to get your results?

Anyway, thanks for your quick response. ;)

Just thinking...

It's an uncommon behaviour that causes high number of pending WUs and it wouldn't be a problem if deadlines weren't so long.
I would like to be sure that my completed work will get validated one day. I'm afraid of the fact that resends could be got by not-crunching hosts again. After 6 months or more, we don't know if this project will be still online.

I guess it's someone bunkering for challenges like Formula BOINC sprints, otherwise it would be a waste of time to wait for resends when someone of active users can crunch them as soon as possible.

Some hosts download work and do not crunch anything.

E.g. 143 540 2447 2537

If we exclude the case they are working offline, there is something wrong here.

There is any problem with inconclusive couples.
They are sent to third host soon or later.
More later than soon. :)

Waited for 3 months to know some inconclusive results of mine were the valid ones.
Now resends may be faster because a few tasks remain.
