For linux users , it is advised to download Boinc through the distro repository of their own distro.
It is more secure.
Don't use neither the boinc installer of the boinc site , nor the personal package archive (ppa) costamagnagianfranco-ppa.
Thus , you will avoid incompatibility between the boinc code and the libraries needed.
The drawback is that you will crunch with a lower or equal version than the latest displayed on the boinc site .
But more important is that the behavior of boinc is correct to not discourage users.

So , unistall boinc and follow this piece of advice to install it once again.

Give us feedback to inform us of the success or the fail of this process.

From 6.0.14 ,He downgraded to 5.2.38 and a real change appeared.
He has an amd ryzen processor :AMD Ryzen 9 5900HS
Mine is an amd a10.
So maybe the amd processors are more sensible than the intel processors for this project.

It depends on the hardware , i suppose.
I have no good results with my host with 6.xx.xx. virtualbox version.
It is curious but this is the truth.
This is why i advised him to try this change and downgrade .So , he may see the difference and would probably obtain more good results.
It is just a piece of advice , if he wants to earn some credits with this project (gridcoin is his team).

To check a virtualbox work unit :
Select the work unit in the boinc manager ,
    Click on button "properties" ,
and notice the " time elapsed" value and the " run time" value in the pop-up windows.

If a big discrepancy appears then you have to abort the work unit because that means that boinc lost the connection with the quchempedia application. The work unit can be considered as dead.

This project explores the space of possible molecules generated.
Sometimes , these molecules are either not possible , or unstable.
To be validated numerically , these molecules have to be confirmed by two different computers over ten trials ( if necessary ).
In your case , this work unit failed the test : no similar results , so no validation.
It's frustrating but this is the rule.
Only positive scientific outputs are rewarded ( even if a negative result teaches the limit of the exploration).

This project doesn't require linux or a vm linux.
It is possible to run it with only Windows and VirtualBox.
You just have to enable virtualization in your bios and disable hyperV.
Sometimes , the virtualbox version , has to be modified , to run properly on the host ( 5.2.X. seems to be better than 6.0.X.).It depends on your host.
All the apps possible are listed here.

You just have to know that with windows the wus are less stable than with linux. You have to handle them carefully at the beginning and at the ending of your computer , to avoid the misfortune...

662 * 6 = 3972 seconds whereas the work unit is listed as a single core app :vbox64_t1

For windows hosts , there is no multi-cores work unit in this project.

Thanks for the feedback.
We know now for sure how to respond to people who encounter these types of errors:
Only use the version of boinc software that is present and built by the maintainers of the linux distribution they run.
It avoids incompatibilities between the libraries present and the dependencies necessary for it to work properly.
Fortunately ,skill grows up with experience...
But this project requires constant vigilance on the part of everyone to ensure that it runs smoothly...
By the way ,Happy new year 2021, everybody !!!

Thanks for the feedback , Jim1348.
It is christmas , before the date.

I have found a post of Jord in the boinc forum ,he speaks about a change in the way , the user has to download Boinc. It was the 29 November.

People that want to crunch on Linux have to go their software repository instead of downloading the latest version here.

That's because that's the new policy. The package maintainers add the newer/newest versions, the BOINC release manager(s) no longer do. Besides, I don't even think we have a release manager for BOINC on Linux.

It's done this way that the package that's built has all the correct libraries for that built for that Linux distribution, instead of BOINC building a version that's broken on 3/4s of the distros out here.

So, for linux and probably mac users , it is advised to download Boinc through their distro repository.

Happy Christmas , everyone !!!
