Mine is a Windows 10 machine with an Intel i5 CPu and I am number 27 in the RAC ranking list. But I have also a Linux Virtual Machine with SuSe Tumbleweed development OS and a 5.11.6 kernel. But since it is enlisted in Science United it does not give me any credit when it runs nwchem.

If a task takes too long a time I always check the Properties button and if CPU usage is zero I abort it. If one or more tasks signal that VM is unmanegeable I exit from BOINc and restart it.

I've noticed that most of the Linux hosts that are faster than my Windows 10 PC using Virtual Box have a small number of processors, while those with a high number of processors are often slower. Do they lack enough memory? My Intel i5 9400F CPU has only six processors and 12 GB RAM.

I have installed a Linux Virtual Machine using SuSE Tumbleweed. which is a development version, frequently updated on a Windows 10 host. Its kernel is now 5.10.16-1 default.Since I have left it enlisted in Science United just for curiosity, I cannot choose the projects it runs. But when it runs nwchem it runs well.My other Linux box, an old HP laptop, runs SuSE Leap 15.0. Its BOINC is 7.8.3.

My VirtualBox is 6.11.18 and it works perfectly also on Atlas tasks at LHC@home where it uses two processors.

I have two funny results on tasks completed and validated. Task 2313002 has a running time of 662,00 s and a CPU time of 3972,00 s. Idem for task 2112787.

Yet I am number 37 in the ranking list with 2 PCs, one very average with Windows and one old and slow in Linux, plus a Linux Virtual Machine running on an AMD Ryzen 5 1400 CPU, my fastest CPU which does not give me any credit since it is enlisted in Science United. I am rather astonished by the i5 9400F CPU with only 6 processors which runs Windows 10.

I am running also nwchem on a Linux Virtual machine with SuSE Tumbleweed and kernel 5.10.12-1 which the Suse development version. But since it is enlisted in Science United its credits go to Science United, which has rank number 5 in the ranking list.So I don't know my contribution.. I have done so far 226 tasks on this Virtual Machine.

OK, I am listed again as number 40. Not bad for an Intel i5 9400F running the home edition of Windows 10 and VirtualBox and an old Linux laptop with AMD E-450 and SuSE Leap 15.0.

I have a number of tasks with "impossible to validate" result. This because all wingmen have failed to validate. Then I have other tasks with "validation inconclusive". Then I have some "waiting for validation". I am using a Windows 10 PC with Virtual Box and an old Linux laptop with SuSE Leap 15.0. My RAC rank is now 44 and I am satisfied with this result. I have left only a Linux Virtual Machine on a Windows host running SuSE Tumbleweed with kernel 5.9.14 which does not give me any credit because it is enlisted in Science United. I have seen the BOINC home page with great emphasis on Science United. I have processed 44491 Milkyway@home tasks without getting a single credit and I abandoned Science United except the Linux Virtual Machine.
