Posted 18 Dec 2021 by Matthias Lehmkuhl Post: ProtectSystem=full works on both machines (debian 11 and Ubuntu 21.10) On debian I have the first valid result and all new results have a normal runtime On Ubuntu the first result is uploaded too with a normal runtime |

Posted 18 Dec 2021 by Matthias Lehmkuhl Post: Looks like with "ProtectSystem=full" is working for me too I now have a new task running on my debian 11 system wit a runtime with more than 10 minutes Bot my Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS also has the setting ProtectSystem=strict So there is some change needed for quchem application to work with ProtectSystem=strict on newer linux systems |

Tasks incorrectly marked as invalid: Please check validation rules

Posted 10 Dec 2020 by Matthias Lehmkuhl Post: Let me put some additional parts to the discussion on my machines I see much more invalid results on my windows systems with vbox app (> 50%) than on my Linux systems (< 33 %) (Running on the same hardware) Based on this it would be good to check the windows results for invalid results based on "in windows vbox" related issues instead of calculation based issues This will also have a negative effect on you AI based result approval if the AI is not able to identify such results And also this is producing much more bad results than are neccessary With VirtualBox 6.1 on a Windows Host the Windows vbox does produce much more errors during calculation (like the task is no longer manageable, will try again in 24 hours) than on VirtualBox 5.2 (VirtualBox 6.0 is between the both versions with this issue) And when a result is hard shut down (poweroff) with a "no longer manageble" issue it will not get a valid result when it is able to finish the calculation after a restart (next reboot or after 24 hours) - and the results have a CPU load of 100 % when I see the issue happen, so calculation is running. Result that do not have the "no longer manageble" issue will mostly have a valid result But VirtualBox 5.2 and 6.0 are no longer supported
Boinc also delivers Boinc with VirtualBox 6.1 now, so it will be good for you to have a better running Windows vbox app |

Posted 14 Nov 2020 by Matthias Lehmkuhl Post: on my computers I don't see the issue with not enough memory My Computers have 16 GB RAM and there are always some GB RAM free But someone mentioned in the forum that the required free RAM of 2 GB is much to high for the QuChem App I too didn't see any RAM usage of this hight, Peak working set size is less 250 MB, but Peak swap size is up to 2 GB for my finished results in the last 20 results of my task list @Tullio And Boinc only uses a defined % (for me I found 80% configured in boinc is a good solution) of the installed RAM to have enough resources for the OS and other apps I use |

Posted 13 Nov 2020 by Matthias Lehmkuhl Post: One additional point The QuChem Windows Application has a problem with other vbox virtual machines running on the same host As long as I don't have my Ubuntu Linux running in VBox on my computer the QuChem Windows App works fine When I have the Ubuntu or Debian Linux running in VBox the QuChem Windows App stopps working with this error QuChemPedIA@home 13.11.2020 20:04:31 Task cl9_athome_b3lyp-321gd,batch013,000139370,nwchem,1595083754_3 postponed for 86400 seconds: VM job unmanageable, restarting later. This issue I don't see with a LHC Theory App e.g. "Theory_2390-********-57_1 using Theory version 30006 (vbox64_theory) in slot 5" and other vbox related Windows Apps and a running Ubuntu or Debian Linux VBox machine So it looks for me like this is a QuChem related issue And for me it looks like this is one reason for the many Validate error for the QuChem calculations (the QuChem vbox machine is stopped hard without writing a savestate file or using a normal shutdown via acpipowerbutton) Without an other running vbox machine I get valid results, but with an other vbox machine the results are invalid |
