After finishing a QuChem work unit, I ended up with a ''validate error''.
I suppose, it was a faulty unit, since all PCs working on it got pretty much the same.
Can you please check it / confirm it?

This project explores the space of possible molecules generated.
Sometimes , these molecules are either not possible , or unstable.
To be validated numerically , these molecules have to be confirmed by two different computers over ten trials ( if necessary ).
In your case , this work unit failed the test : no similar results , so no validation.
It's frustrating but this is the rule.
Only positive scientific outputs are rewarded ( even if a negative result teaches the limit of the exploration).

I have a few PCs attached to this projects (see below links)

I have installed in all of them Oracle Virtual Box.
I have also enabled virtualization via BIOS and I can see that it is enabled through Windows Task Manager and some other tools.
For some reason, only the first PC (ID=5196 // OS Linux Mint), which is 15 years old, has cpu virtualization enabled.
The other two (ID=5198 // INTEL i5, OS WIN10-64bit ---- ID=5271 // AMD Ryzen 3400g, OS WIN10-64bit) do support virtualization,
I have also enabled it, but as I can see in their links details ''CPU does not have hardware virtualization support''.

Is something I am doing wrong and how can I solve it?

Hey, I'm no expert but have you tried "reset project" in advanced view of boinc? That might send off new data?

Also, did you disable hyper-V? this thread speaks on virtualisation problems

You only need virtualization on a Windows machine. You don't need it on Linux (at least Ubuntu 18.04/20.04 work OK).

I haven't tried to reset the project. If I reset do I lose the work unit points? If not I will try it.
Also, I checked your link and I can say the following things
1) Win10 HYPER-V is disable (all those features: machine platform, hypervisor platform etc)
2) I have also enable in BIOS virtualization features (ASUS motherboard)
3) For the time, I have tried the AMD tool and I get the following ''the system is compatible with hyper-V.

No, you shouldn't lose any credits if you reset. My suggestion was a long shot anyway. I couldn't get VirtualBox to work when I tried for this project (but I had a different problem) so I just switched to using Ubuntu (I have dual boot set up) I understand not everyone has the luxury.

Reset the project didn't help.
I have enabled also the virtualization in Intel machine and I got the same results as AMD.
I can't figure out what may be wrong, so I will stick to Linux OS for the Quchem projects.
Maybe, I will try sometime for a dual boot OS (windows/ linux) in AMD PC and attach the project on that Linux.

My advice to compute on Windows 10 is to install virtualbox and set up a virtual Machine you administrate yourself. Then, you compute within the VM with native application.

Indeed. I participate to almost all of the BOINC projects, using mainly Windows as primary OS .
Unfortunately, most of the projects that require VirtualBox (VB), deal with these kind of issues.
Some require a specific version of VB, while some others don't work with that version.
(The funny thing is that my 15 years old Desktop with Linux Mint doesn't have those kind of issues. It lacks of cpu power though...).

So, your suggestion is:
1) Install virtual box on windows 10.
2) Set up a virtual machine running an OS (linux I suppose... Windows will be ok or I will face the same problem?)
3) Run boinc through virtual machine.

But I did try WSL (Windows Subsystem for LInux) on Windows 10 (Pro), and it worked well on CPDN.
The problem was managing it, since you have only a command-line interface with WSL, not a GUI.

In any case, you will see a lot of invalids and "validation inconclusive" on QuChemPedIA.
That is just the way the science is. But you should not get only errors if it is set up right.

Yes, my suggestion is to install a Linux VM (Linuxmint for example) on Windows 10

I have installed a Linux Virtual Machine using SuSE Tumbleweed. which is a development version, frequently updated on a Windows 10 host. Its kernel is now 5.10.16-1 default.Since I have left it enlisted in Science United just for curiosity, I cannot choose the projects it runs. But when it runs nwchem it runs well.My other Linux box, an old HP laptop, runs SuSE Leap 15.0. Its BOINC is 7.8.3.

I have been finding out by trial and error what works best for validations. I have mainly Ryzen 3000's, so that is what I started with, and Ubuntu 18.04 or 20.04. But I got a valid to invalid rate of only about 1 to 1 (equal numbers). I noticed that the wingmen who did better were running Intel, so I switched over to an i7-9700. That worked better, but I have also noticed that Ubuntu 20.04 does better than 18.04, so I upgraded (it is probably just because there are more 20.04 machines out there, and their libraries or kernels or whatever match better).

At any rate, I am now getting 3 to 1 valid to invalid, and hope to get it to a 10 to 1 rate on the i7-9700, which seems to be what some others get.

I appear to have run my last batch just for the hours as not a single WU validated for anyone, type of OS, CPU made no difference, one is still inconclusive since the 14/2/2021.

Hoping I will get some points this time round.

Yep, I completed some work units with ''validation inconclusive'' .
I got some points for some of them. I suppose it has to do with the fact what the other PCs have done with those work units..

Thank you guys for your responses. I will try virtual box with LINUX OS installed in my AMD PC and see what's going on.
P.S. My windows PCs have got zero work units so far.... :(

To enable virtualization you must access to the setup of your mother card
And you must enable virtualization inside of the mother card setup
You must ask LHC@home to the way to enable mother card

Usually tu access to the setup you need to press F2 or Del to access to the setup at the start of the computer

Inside of the setup then activate virtualisation

I have already done this. I have enabled virtualization on motherboard BIOS and installed virtual box on Windows machines.
Everything seems to work fine and windows OS says ''virtualization is enabled'' in Task Manager
However, boinc projects have a different point of view: "Virtualbox installed, CPU does not have hardware virtualization support".
(This happens to all boinc projects that require virtualization)
I know that both motherboard and cpu support virtualization and I have followed the steps to enable it.
Anyway, I will stick to linux for the time being...
